Lucia Giraudo

Not in my wildest dream would I have ever imagined that the love of music would take me so far away from home and allow me to be a part of this wonderful country, The Netherlands.

I come from Cordoba, the second biggest city in Argentina. I grew up in a family of musicians where my father was an orchestra conductor and my mother an amateur singer. I have early memories attending concerts at the city’s theater watching my father conduct the orchestra, but also falling asleep in the cozy arms of my mother while listening to the faint sounds of an opera.

At the age of 17 I got a full-time position at the symphony orchestra in my city, but a few years later I realized that I wanted and needed to explore the world. I auditioned in some conservatoires and travelled to the United States of America, where I did my bachelor studies in classical violin at Indiana  University.

Here I met my partner and together, in the need of more exploration, we travelled to Europe. I lived in Barcelona studying baroque violin and, in my spare time, performing Tango concerts. After a year, we decided to move to The Netherlands. We kept on hearing that this country was home to some of the best early music conservatoires in the world. Happily I was accepted and welcomed to study here!

After finishing my masters degree with Kati Debretzeni at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, I decided to ignore my fears and write to the Nederlandse Bachvereniging and ask for an audition. Since then I have been a regular player, and became a core member last year.

I must confess that I do miss the nice weather I grew up with, but there’s nothing that a good ‘stamppot’ can fix!
