The background

NTR Saturday Matinee

Guaranteed success: the Bach Society is returning to the NTR Saturday Matinee, sharing the stage once again with recorder player Lucie Horsch. Mathilde Wantenaar has written a new work for the occasion, which will have its world premiere at the Matinee.

Adventurous programming“

For more than 65 years, the NTR Saturday Matinee has been a household name, both in the Netherlands and internationally. It is famed for its adventurous programming. This time, old and new music meet under the leadership of artistic leader Johanna Soller, in an exciting programme of music by J.S. Bach (1685-1750), Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) and Mathilde Wantenaar (1993). Bach’s big orchestral works, including ‘Brandenburg’ concertos nos. 2 and 4, flow into Stravinsky’s arrangement of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier and Mathilde Wantenaar’s contemporary music. For her Seufzer, she took inspiration from Bach’s aria ‘Seufzer, Tränen, Kummer, Not’.
