Utrecht, TivoliVredenburg, Grote Zaal
Dit concert is alleen te bestellen als onderdeel van een serie.
This year, in 2022, we are celebrating a 100-year-old tradition. We have been performing Bach’s St Matthew Passion in the Grote Kerk, in Naarden, since 1922. Shunske Sato has played the St Matthew Passion many times before with the Netherlands Bach Society, under a variety of well-known guest conductors. In his fourth season as artistic director, Shunske is conducting Bach's masterpiece himself, as a first-chair violinist.
Bach's stereo effect will be brought out even more“
He is convinced of the special power of this way of working, which was very common in Bach’s day.
In the St Matthew Passion, various groups enter into dialogue with one another. Bach arranged this musically by composing for two ensembles. Shunske therefore wants to make optimal use of the acoustic possibilities. “I’m working with a spatial arrangement in which the two ensembles are separated. So Bach's stereo effect will be brought out even more, making a vital addition to the St Matthew”.
The concert in Utrecht is available in a subscription. Please contact our Ticket sales & information department.
