The background

The Opera Circus

The Opera Circus is a tribute to the grand master of dramatic music: George Frideric Handel, and to the spectacle theatre of his day. Old theatre techniques, contemporary circus and Handel’s music come together, set to a new libretto – bringing the magic of Baroque opera to life again. Come and see it!

OPERA2DAY mixes circus and Händel opera's into a refreshing baroque spectacle“

- NRC

Two gods are embroiled in age-old feuds. In an apocalyptic landscape, they battle one another furiously, and the situation seems hopeless. Until, that is, a travelling circus troupe are stranded there with them. Open-minded, frivolous and full of confidence, the young circus troupe set the world in motion again. Colour returns, love flourishes and there’s a happy ending in store. Following two previous successful collaborations, Dangerous Liaisons and J.S. Bach - The Apocalypse, OPERA2DAY and the Bach Society are once again joining forces to present an original Baroque spectacle.
